Shanzhong Gong, M.S.

I was born in a small town of AnHui province in the eastern part of China. I received my first Master degree in South China Agricultural University in the research field of animal infectious disease, and my second Master degree in Kansas State University studying a tick-borne diseases called Ehrlichia Chaffeensis. To better understand the mechanism of different diseases, I chose UT Austin to further my Ph.D study.

In 2010, I came to Austin with my wife and very luckily and happy to join the Johnson Lab. Here, I got very good lab training. Currently, I am working on HIV Reverse Transcriptase Resistance Mechanism. I have made several mutants and study their roles in the resistance mechanism of HIV RT. The progress made in these studies will ultimately help developing novel and effective drugs against HIV infection in the near future.

In my spare time, I like to spend time with my family and my friends. Also, I like to play basketball with my friends on the weekend.
